Bang & Olufsen er blevet skudt i skoene, at firmaet har ladet sig overhale af mere nytænkende konkurrenter. På det seneste har firmaet præsenteret fastnet-telefoner, mp3-afspillere og fladskærme, som nok er flotte og særprægede, men som ikke har imponeret teknik-opslugte forbrugere.

Derfor var det med en vis national stolthed, at man i går kunne se præsentationen af ASUS NX90Jq, der angiveligt var produktet af et samarbejde mellem netop B&O og Asus.

Maskinens ydre rammer minder om typisk B&O-design med rene linjer udført i aluminium og sort materiale. Og hængslerne minder om mobiltelefonen Serene.Men det danske firma kan ikke høste rosen for den flotte bærbar.
»Computeren er designet af David Lewis, der designer for B&O, men han designer også for mange andre. Vi bruger kun eksterne designere,« forklarer pressechef Tommy Jakobsen og tilføjer, at Lewis også er kendt for sine emhætte-designs.

Struer-firmaet har dog sat et lille fingeraftryk på maskinen.

»Det eneste samarbejde består i, at Bang & Olufsen ICEPower har ydet en konsulentydelse. Det er vores lydafdeling, der har konstrueret lyddesignet. Og derfor er lyden selvfølgelig helt fantastisk,« siger Tommy Jakobsen.

På elektronikmessen CES i Las Vegas blev maskinen i går vist frem. Inde bag det specielle design gemmer computeren på habilt maskinkraft fra Asus, der lynhurtigt har placeret sig i det bærbare markeds førerfelt efter EEE-succesen.

ASUS NX90Jq er dog ikke gammelt vin på nye flasker. For eksempel har udviklerne forsynet den med to touchpads, så man angiveligt kan betjene den med to hænder – som en dj. Skærmen er på 18.4 tommer, så den hører nærmere hjemme i stuen end i arbejdstasken. Desuden er der Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 334M grafik og mulighed for at udvide RAM til 12GB. Den leveres med 4GB. Der er indbygget Blu-ray. Prisen blev der ikke talt om.

Microsofts seneste styresystem Windows 7 indeholder en smart funktion som samler alle indstillings-muligheder fra Kontrolpanelet i samme folder. En slags super-styrecentral for hele computeren, som da også har fået navnet GodMode. Det skriver Cnet,

Det underlige er bare, at denne funktion er hemmelig – den er ikke dokumenteret nogen steder og først nu er informationerne dukket op på nettet.

For at komme ind i GodMode skal du oprette en ny folder og give den følgende navn:

GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}

Herefter vil folderen få et nyt ikon, der ligner Kontrolpanelet, og hvis du åbner den, finder du alle de kendte funktioner samlet i en overskuelig liste.

Her kan du så ordne alt, lige fra at ændre musemarkøren til at oprette en ny harddisk-partition.

Det er ikke en revolution, men en ganske nyttig funktion, og det kan undre at den er skjult i styresystemet.

Tricket skulle angiveligt også fungere med 32-bit Vista, men der er meldinger om, at det kan give problemer med 64-bit udgaver af dette styresystem.

Google har startet et nyt miniprojekt kaldet Browser Size, som nok især er interessant for webdesignere. Her kan du se, hvordan den gennemsnitlige bruger ser din hjemmeside – baseret på statistiske data fra Google.com. For hvert område på din webside får du et tal for, hvor mange procent af brugerne der kan se dette område uden at scrolle.

Nu kunne man måske tro, at det kan være lige meget om at brugerne nu skal scrolle eller ej. Men ifølge Googles blogindlæg har det faktisk meget stor betydning. Mange brugere scroller nemlig ikke – og går dermed glip af de ting, der ligger længere nede på siden.

Google fortæller hvordan man har oplevet dette fænomen på download-siden for Google Earth, hvor antallet af downloads steg med 10 pct. efter at download-knappen blev flyttet 100 pixels længere op.

Browser Size illustrerer dette og hjælper dermed med at planlægge, hvor elementer på hjemmesiden skal placeres.

Converting to NTFS Using Convert.exe

A partition can also be converted after Setup by using Convert.exe. For more information about Convert.exe, after completing Setup, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER. In the command window, type help convert, and then press ENTER.

It is easy to convert partitions to NTFS. The Setup program makes conversion easy, whether your partitions used FAT, FAT32, or the older version of NTFS. This kind of conversion keeps your files intact (unlike formatting a partition.

To find out more information about Convert.exe

1. After completing Setup, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then press ENTER.
2. In the command window, type help convert and then press ENTER. Information about converting FAT volumes to NTFS is made available as shown below.

To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt

1. Open Command Prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
2. In the command prompt window, type: convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs 

For example, typing convert D: /fs:ntfs would format drive D: with the ntfs format. You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command.

Important  Once you convert a drive or partition to NTFS, you cannot simply convert it back to FAT or FAT32. You will need to reformat the drive or partition which will erase all data, including programs and personal files, on the partition.

Html-standarderne har deres egen kode, som garanterer, at et bogstav altid bliver vist korrekt. For de danske æ, ø og å er det:

*Unicode

I Unicode-standarden har hvert bogstav en kode, som er angivet som en firecifret hex-værdi med foranstillet ‘u+’, fx u+0000.

I Html-kodningen er det muligt at adressere et tegn fra Unicode-standarden, hvis man omregner tegnet til decimaltal. Fx har bogstavet Æ koden u+00C6. Omregnet til decimaltal er det: 6 * 1 + C * 16 = 198 (hvor C = 12). I tabellen ovenfor fremgår det, at dette er den såkaldte decimalværdi for tegnet Æ, som kan skrives som Æ.

Charset

Den sidste mulighed er at undersøge, hvordan dit html-dokument er kodet. Ofte vil det være UTF-8-kodning, men er siden skrevet i bl.a. Windows Notepad, er det ofte en anden type encoding, som vil variere fra computer til computer. Når du ved, hvilken encoding, der er valgt, kan du tilføje et Content-Type-tag, som ofte vil angive UTF-8 eller iso-8859-1:

Tag’et tilføjes som det første i head-sektionen. Når brugerens browser møder dette tag, genindlæser den dokumentet forfra med den angivede encoding. Læs også dette blogindlæg om unicode-encoding.

Ved xhtml-dokumenter kan du i stedet tilføje dette tag som den første linje i dokumentet:

 Hvis din encoding er sat korrekt, kan du skrive specialtegn direkte i din editor, der så vil lagre tegnene som de rigtige hex.

Med Windows 7 bliver en hel del ting langt  nemmere og mere intuitivt. Sitet Techradar har kigget på de fedeste nyskabelser ved Windows 7.

1. Ryst vinduerne væk

Ved at hive fat i et vindue og ryste det fra side til side bliver alle andre åbne vinduer minimeret.

2. Jumplist

Jumplists viser de senest åbne filer for en lang række programmer uden at programmerne er åbne. Hvis du vil åbne et tidligere Word dokument hurtigt, skal du bare bruge Jumplist.

3. Preview

Preview-funktionen fra Windows Vista, hvor man kunne se åbne programmer ved at bevæge curseren henover dem i Startmenuen er blevet udvidet.

4. Sæt vinduer i ramme

Hvis du hiver et vindue helt ud til højre eller venstre kant, så skalerer der til at fylde halvdelen af skærmen. Hvis du hiver vinduet op i toppen, så udvider det sig til hele skærmen.

5. XP tilstand

Hvis programmerne ikke virker i 7, så hent XP tilstanden, og kør et virtuelt Windows XP.

6. Skift skærm

Det er blevet nemmere at skifte skærm. Tryk Win + P og du kan kopiere eller strække skærmbilledet til en ekstern skærm på et øjeblik.

7. Opdater ‘device and printer’

Windows 7 holder øje med om der er nye firmware-opdateringer klar til udvidelsesudstyr som usb-harddiske og printere, hvis udstyret er Windows 7 certifikeret.

8. Fjern ikoner fra Startmenuen

Hvis du er ligeglad med hvad klokken er, så kan du fjerne uret og alle andre ikoner fra Startmenuen.

9. Optag en video af dit problem

Hvis du har et problem med computeren, så kan du sætte Windows 7 til at optage problemet. Det tager et screenshot hver gang du klikker på musen. Herefter kan du sende videoen til en ekspert. Det vil også revolutionere arbejdstiden for journalister på trin-for-trin magasiner som Komputer for alle.

10.Bedre lup

Forstørrelsesglasset i tidligere Windows er lidt irriterende. I windows 7, kan man begrænse forstørrelsen til området omkring curseren.

11. Hør musik hurtigere

I Windows 7 kan man lynhurtigt afspille sin musik uden at åbne hele MediaPlayer.

12. Opret arbejdsgruppe

Det evindelige besvær med at dele mapper og oprette arbejdsgrupper, som plager tidligere Windows er elemineret i Windows 7. Opret en gruppe og tast adgangskoden ind på dine andre Windows 7 computere, så er du kørende.

13. Stream musik

Når du har oprettet en arbejdsgruppe, så kan du streame musik til alle computere i netværket.

14. Action Center

Det er hele sikkerhedshalløjet samlet på et sted. Du kan endda indstille det til ikke at komme med irriterende beskeder.

15. Brænd ISO-filer direkte i Windows

Med Windows 7 behøver du ikke tredjepartsprogrammer for at brænde ISO-filer. Du kan brænde en kopi af din Windos 7 ISO fil direkte fra Windows.

16. HD kalibration

Hvis du tilslutter din computer til fladskærmen, så kan du nemt kalibrere billedet til at passe perfekt.

Der er sagt og skrevet meget om Google Wave i de seneste måneder, og det bliver selvfølgelig ikke mindre interessant, fordi det faktisk er to danskere der har fået ideen. Men Google er ikke de eneste, der arbejder på et revolutionerende kommunikationsredskab. Hos Mozilla har holdet bag postprogrammet Thunderbird startet et interessant projekt under kodenavnet Raindrop, som kombinerer e-mail med web-teknologier på en helt ny måde.

Ligesom Wave er det svært at forklare, og man er nødt til selv at prøve det for at forstå, hvilke muligheder der ligger i programmet. Den første prototype er netop offentliggjort og på Mozillas Labs websted om Raindrop kan man hente en video, som viser nogle af de fundamentale ideer.

Raindrop samler beskeder fra mange forskellige kilder i samme indbakke – Twitter, Facebook, Flickr og andre – og sørger for at de personlige beskeder fra venner og familie fremhæves, mens upersonlige beskeder fra f.eks. mailing-lister sorteres fra og lander i en separat folder. Raindrop sørger også for, at f.eks. en video fra Youtube vises direkte i postprogrammet, så man ikke behøver åbne et browservindue.

Og der er naturligvis tale om open source med masser af muligheder for at udvikle sine egne udvidelser og tage programmet i nye retninger. Flere af grundideerne minder om Wave, men Google satser stærkere på realtids-kommunikation og definerer nye protokoller, mens Raindrop bruger eksisterende standarder til at skabe forbindelse og integration mellem forskellige systemer.

There’s been a lot written about Apple’s dramatic release of Boot Camp, a free download that lets you repartition your Intel-based Mac’s drive and install Windows XP as an alternative operating system, but even the magazine coverage I’ve seen doesn’t give you screen-by-screen details. So let’s see what we can do about that!

Your first step is to make sure you have an Intel-based Mac: any G4 or G5 Mac will not install Boot Camp and you won’t be able to dual boot into Windows XP. You can still run an emulator like Microsoft Virtual PC, but it’s an inferior solution and my own experience with VPC has been that it’s glacial and useless for all but the most simplistic of Windows applications. You’ll also need to be able to burn a CD during the process: make sure you have a blank, burnable CD disk on hand.

Now, download Boot Camp from the Apple site and double click on the “.dmg” disk image that’s dropped onto your desktop. Here’s what you’ll see:

Your first step, as highlighted in the “Read Before You Install” document, is to print a copy of the Boot Camp Beta Installation & Setup Guide. Trust me, you’ll want it!

Double-click on the “BootCampAssistant.pkg” icon and you’ll be able to install the Boot Camp assistant:

As with all Mac software installs, this will require you to type in your administrative password. It’s probably the same as your default account password:

A few seconds of activity later, you’ll have the software successfully copied onto your computer and can quit this first installer.

Now your first challenge: finding the new installation assistant! It turns out that the program is installed on your computer in Applications –> Utilities –> Boot Camp Assistant. Launch it and it’s quite possible you’ll see the same message I did:

No huge problem. Quit by clicking the “Quit” button, then go to Apple’s Support Downloads and check their Available Firmware Updates list to click directly to the firmware update for your own Intel system. For my Mini, I simply go back to the downloads page and scan down for the name of my system.

Once the correct firmware update is installed, you need to reboot, but not in the usual fashion. Instead, press and hold the power button on the Mini itself — it takes about ten seconds — until the power indicator light flashes repeatedly to begin the update. Your system will boot and you’ll see the Apple icon and a progress bar:

That will advance, it took me about 90 seconds total, and you’ll reboot again, ready to go!

Finally, we’re ready to actually start working with Boot Camp itself. The first step is to read all of Apple’s warnings:

Okay, now let’s proceed. First choice: do we want to burn a Macintosh Drivers CD, which contains important device drivers for Windows XP so it can access the various hardware parts of the Mac, or do we already have one. I don’t already have one, so I’ll choose the default of “Burn a Macintosh Drivers CD now”:

I slip in the blank disk and the system tells me it’s “ready to burn”. Click “Burn” and it’ll do everything necessary to create the Windows XP drivers CD. This took a few minutes on my Mini, but it wasn’t terribly long.

Next step is much more exciting: it’s time to partition the hard disk!

Partitioning is a geeky buzzword for something that will actually make a lot of sense to you, believe it or not. The idea is that if you have a large hard disk, why not configure it to act like two small hard disks? Or three? In this way, smart system administrators can isolate accounts, minimize out-of-disk-space errors and disruptions, and so on. With Apple Boot Camp, we’ll want to partition the default disk to allow us to have one “disk” that represents the Windows XP world, and another “disk” that represents Mac OS X.

By default, Boot Camp offers up a pretty tiny partition for Windows, as you can see:

I’d recommend that you make it bigger if you’re actually going to use Windows for anything important; Microsoft recommends 10GB as the smallest reasonable and functional partition, for example. If you’re just playing, however, 5GB will probably work fine (until your first big game install). I’ll make mine 8GB to be somewhere in the middle.

Change the partition sizes by clicking and dragging on the vertical bar between the two areas until you have the size or sizes you desire. With my Mini configuration, it left me with 66GB for Mac OS X, of which 20GB is free, and 8GB for Windows XP.

Once the partitions are set up as you desire, click on “Partition” and keep your fingers crossed (there is a slight chance it’ll actually mangle everything on the disk. Not likely, but I would definitely recommend you do one good, clean backup before you start experimenting with Boot Camp).

The disk partition is what we Windows folk call non-destructive or dynamic, which means that you don’t have to reformat and then reinstall everything on both “sides” of the partition. That’s a very, very good thing.

Once the partitioning is done, you’re ready to install Windows itself:

Fortunately, I have a pristine new copy of Microsoft Windows XP Pro with SP2 included for PCs without Windows (who would have thought I’d think of my Mac as a PC without Windows?) and that’s what I’ll use. My thanks to Microsoft for sending it along…

Insert the WinXP installation DVD, wait for it to be recognized by Mac OS X (it’ll show up on your desktop with a cheery name like “VRMFPP_EN”), click on “Start Installation” and kiss Mac OS X goodbye.

After a bit, you’ll see the unfamiliar blue screen of a Windows installation:

Press ENTER or Return on the keyboard to continue, agree to the Microsoft warnings and legal restrictions page, and you’ll finally get to the “choose partition” list:

Take your time here to ensure that you pick the correct partition! You want to use Partition C: which should match the size you just set too: notice on my screen it’s 8407MB, which is about 8GB, as expected. Move the highlight bar down to the correct partition and press Enter to actually install WinXP.

Now you need to pick a partition formatting option. The two main choices are NTFS or FAT. NTFS is more modern and supports very large partitions, but can’t interoperate with Mac OS X. FAT, on the other hand, can’t support partitions larger than 32GB, but is compatible with the Mac. You’ll see why that’s important later. For now, select FAT and do a full, not a quick, format:

Now some time will pass while the partition is formatted using the Windows FAT32 format. It took my system about five minutes to fill in the progress bar:

I won’t document every single step involved in installing Windows XP as it’s pretty straightforward. Just make sure you have your product key available for the verification step of the process. It’s in the package within the Microsoft Windows XP disk, and it’s really a good idea to use a new version of the OS rather than the same key you’ve used with other PCs in your office or home. Worst case, you can skip the verification step and have 30 days of “trial period” before you have to deal with finding a valid key to enter for verification purposes.

Once you’ve finished the full Windows XP install, which can take rather quite a while, your system will reboot and you’ll want to eject the WinXP install disk and slip in the Mac drivers CD you burned earlier in the process.

With Windows, this is done by going to My Computer and right-clicking on the optical drive D: then selecting Eject. Slip in the Mac disk and everything should just automatically launch and start up. If not, look for and double click on the file Install Macintosh Drivers for Win XP.exe. Here’s what you’ll see:

I admit, it’s kind of weird to see a Mac installation program running within Windows XP on a Mac computer, but it’s a brave new world out there.

Probably, during the installation process, you’ll learn that various components of your Intel-based Macintosh haven’t passed the Microsoft Windows compatibility test:

Apple assures us that it’s safe to continue anyway, so I did. Three times!

Then you get to go through a few waves of “new hardware found”, and in all cases you can simply accept all the default settings for each wizard, as those guys in Redmond call ‘em, and proceed. Finally, you’ll get to the last configuration screen:

Click “reboot now” and if the hardware compatibility Gods are smiling upon you, the Mac will reboot right into Windows and you’ll be the proud owner of a Macintosh that can run Windows natively, astonishingly enough.

One last tip: to select which OS you want to run, hold down the OPTION key when you start up the Mac and you’ll be able to see both Mac OS X and Windows XP:

Use the arrow keys to move to the choice you desire, then press Enter or RETURN to select it and zoom into that mode.

When you do boot into Mac OS X, you’ll notice that there’s a new hard disk on your desktop too, called “NO NAME”. Click on the name, count to five, and click again, then type “Windows XP” and you’ll forevermore realize what it is. And yes, you can navigate through it and find your data files from when you’re running Windows, but I’ll talk about that in another article!

It’s a long, tricky process, but I hope this explains exactly how to install and get running with Apple Boot Camp. Also, don’t miss my tutorial on how to install Parallels to run Windows XP within Mac OS X, rather than having to reboot each time you want to switch systems.

Here’s instructions for how to get the HTML into Outlook so you can send it as an email.

1.Save the HTML.
If you have recieved the HTML file via email, save the attached HTML out of the email you received it in using one of the following methods:
1.right-click on the attachment and choose “Save Attachment”
2.drag and drop the file to your desktop or local filesystem
3.From the File Menu of the open message choose “File > Save Attachments.”

DO NOT double click on the attachment to open it and then choose “File > Save As.” This causes the HTML file to be opened in your web browser, and choosing “File > Save As” from a browser may helpfully rewrite everything.

(I was suprised to learn that “save the attachment” means quite a few different things to different people.)

2.Put it in the Stationery Directory.
Move the HTML file to:

C:\Documents and Settings\*userid*\Application Data\Microsoft\Stationery.

The Application Data folder is a hidden folder so you may not be able to see it by simply browsing to it. You can change your preferences to display hidden files and folders (Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files and folders), or copy and past the above location into the Windows Explorer (double-click My Computer) address bar, replacing *userid* with the correct folder.

The Stationery folder is created by Outlook the first time you use the stationery feature. If you do not see the stationery folder, try creating a new message as below with any other stationery and the folder will be created in your user directory.
3.Action > New message using > More stationery…
From the Action menu of the main Outlook window, choose Action > New mail message using > More stationery…, then choose your HTML file from the list. This will open a new email message with your HTML file as the body.

Outlook displays HTML differently when it’s editing the HTML as opposed to simply displaying it. This can cause extra spacing to appear at the end of lines or around images. Sending the message to yourself will confirm that these types of display problems will not appear for the recipient.
